iPhone Screen Replacement
Estimated time for repair 45 minutes:
The screen of your iPhone is one of the most important parts and it's never fun when it gets damaged, or even just stops working. Luckily, we're here to help you get back on track!
How is my screen replacement done?
For us at Tantrum Tech Repair, it's done in a few easy steps! While this isn't a step by step guide, we love being transparent about what's going on with your phone when we perform a repair. We remove a couple of security screws at the bottom of your phone that hold the screen down. Lift the screen from the frame and take out a few more screws that hold down the connector for the screen and battery. Once the screen is properly removed from the device, we transfer over a small part called the proximity sensor to the new screen, and start putting the phone back together. Every screen replacement we do, we'll also clean the old adhesive off and replace it with new adhesive.
What reasons are there to get a screen replaced?
Cracked Screen / Cracked LCD: Sometimes it could be something simple like a cracked screen or cracked LCD. In most places, you'll hear the screen or the LCD being referred to as the same part, because they are, but they're also two separate parts of a whole assembly. "What's the difference?" you might ask. The screen refers to the entire assembly of the display part, while the LCD is specifically the component that shows the image on your device.
Defective Screen / Liquid Damage: Other times you may need the screen to be replaced if the phone stops recognising the screen as a good part. This can happen just from dropping the phone one time or from a little bit of moisture getting into the device.
Ghost Touching: Not as spooky as it sounds, this occurs when the touch sensor, called a digitizer, under the glass is damaged. Ghost touching is when your phone, or any device with a touch screen, registers touch all on its own. This can happen both when you're using the phone, and even when it's not even in your hand and sitting on a table. If your iPhone starts to ghost touch even when the phone is not being held, we recommend turning off the passcode to avoid the passcode from being entered incorrectly too many times. Even if you're not using the phone, ghost touching can cause the phone to lock itself, requiring all the data to be erased before it can be used again. If you cannot remove the passcode because of this touch issue, try to turn the phone off until it can be repaired. If it comes to the point where you can't even turn the phone off and there's data that you don't know if it has been backed up, take it to any repair shop to have them unplug the battery.
